  1. A book that has helped several carer’s I have known is Hugh Marriott’s The Selfish Pig’s Guide to Caring. His wife had Huntington’s Disease and for nine years following diagnosis they sailed around the world before they had to find a fixed home until the end. Hugh then wrote the book about all the stuff he wished someone had told him before he tried to go it alone. It’s quirky and frank and it is aimed directly at the carer. It’s not a How to Care manual, but how to manage your new unexpected career as a carer and keep going.
